Tools for the Kitchen Enthusiast

My friends know that I like basketball and basketball shoes. My friends know that I used to play the guitar. My friends know that I am a photography enthusiast and is now a professional wedding photographer. But only a few know that I also like cooking.

Cooking for me is a time to take away my mind from the daily stress of life. It allows me to just focus on the task at hand which is to cook. It doesn't hurt that I can do whatever I want in the kitchen and I'll be able to eat delicious food afterwards.

Here's the recent one I cooked:

Prawn Coconut Curry

"You're wearing the same shirt as mine!"

Since this weekend is a long one, I've had lots of time to myself (although I still worked at home). As a result, I was able to think about a lot of things. This is one of them.

Why do we hate it (or, at least, feel awkward) when we see someone wearing the same clothes as ours at the same time?

I'm guilty with this one. Take, for instance, this polo shirt.

Giordano Polo Shirt Tapered Fit

I've seen this shirt everywhere. Heck I even have several friends and colleagues that have the same one. So what are we rambling about? Is this about our status symbol? "Others can also afford this, people might think this is cheap." I asked myself this question and I can't answer it. Maybe I'm just used to people having the same reaction in instances like this one so I also react the same way.

In case someone is reading this entry, you might be wondering where this thought came from.

You see, my office mate and I recently started a blog about appreciating more the local clothing brands. In our blog, we showcase different clothes and brands in the hopes of influencing others to patronize local products - choosing them more than imported ones. (We believe that our local brands are world class. When shopping in malls, try to compare the local and imported ones. Design-wise, not too different. The huge discrepancy can be seen in the price tag. Practically, which would you choose? Not bad, eh?) Going back, last Sunday, I was shopping in a mall with some of my friends. We checked out a lot of shops, including local stores like Bench and Penshoppe. I noticed that every time we check out local stores, we only look for pants or shorts, never shirts. I tried suggesting a polo shirt to my friend and he told me that if we bought shirts in that store, there is a big chance that we would see someone wearing the same shirt on the day we decide to wear them. Again, what's up with that?

Even though we were chatting about something else, my head had one thing in mind - the blog. Of course, it is not enough to just tell people to do this and that. As the saying goes, I have to practice what I preach.

Now that I think about it, there is really nothing wrong with seeing someone else wearing the same clothes as mine. In fact, I find it a bit arrogant if we react negatively on the situation, although, I don't know what's going on in the minds of people so I can't really judge them. What I just want to say is that if you look good and you feel good in that shirt, then get that shirt. The possibility of bumping into someone with the same one shouldn't stop you from getting it.

Hmm...what should I buy next?
